Legend has it that Molly Marley and her child escaped Native American captivity, the mother collapsing in exhaustion, the youth continuing on in search of help. When found, all the youngster could utter was “hungry mother.” Molly didn’t survive, but the park and its scenic lake that keep her story alive is a popular swimming, fishing, paddling, hiking and biking destination.
