Planning a trip? Check out the Fort Loudoun State Park website.

This British fortification sought to insulate the Colony of South Carolina from the destruction of the French and Indian War. Inhabited between 1756 and 1760, it oversaw the creation and dissolution of an alliance with the Cherokee Nation before falling into disuse. Reconstructed during the Great Depression near Tellico Lake, the fort, blockhouse ruins, and a museum depict the site’s history.
