Completed in 1970, the Harbour Town Lighthouse wasn’t built to protect offshore marine traffc. The tower that today is a local icon promotes an eco-friendly seaside resort. This barrier island fronted by 12 miles of pristine beaches also is famous for its golf courses and wildlife. Visitors come to shop, hike, bike, paddle kayaks, charter fishing trips, take boat tours, and enjoy local seafood.
