This stone structure at 9,740 feet welcomes visitors to the land of the Haleakalā silversword. The plant may live many decades, but it blooms just once and dies. The visitor center near the dormant volcano’s summit is the best place to watch breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Early morning entry to the park requires a reservation.
