East of San Juan along the Sierra de Liquillo mountains lies the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System receiving, at times, more than 200 inches of rain per year. The island’s largest parcel of public land is also one of the most biologically diverse and protects many endemic species. Trails lead hikers to cascading waterfalls and panoramic views atop the Yokahu observation tower.
