At nearly 18 miles long, Georgia’s southernmost barrier island boasts over 36,000 acres of maritime forest, beach, wetland, marsh, and dune. Over 50 miles of hiking trails and roadways lead to historic sites, including Carnegie estates like Plum Orchard Mansion and Dungeness Ruins, and the Settlement, a community settled by former slaves.
