In 1902, the Chickasaw Nation sold 640 acres of land to the U.S. Government to protect freshwater and mineral springs from development. That land in south central Oklahoma is among the 10,000 acres protected within this area that now includes Lake of the Arbuckles, Veterans Lake, and over 20 miles of scenic hiking trails.
