The legendary Wild West showman, bison hunter, U.S. Army scout and Pony Express rider died on January 10, 1917, while visiting his sister in Denver. Six months later when the ground was thawed, he was buried on nearby Lookout Mountain, reportedly to honor Cody’s wish that his grave overlooked the Great Plains, where he spent much of his life. His story is told in the museum on site.
