Brown v. Board of Education was a landmark court case for racial equality. The catalyst for the lawsuit was Topeka’s school district refusing to allow black students to attend their closest school. In the 1954 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States deemed racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional thus overturning ‘separate but equal.’
