The steep cliffs of Kilauea's west rim seem to breathe. Deep fissures in the mountain, known as fumaroles, exhale steam that can reach temperatures of 145-degrees. Magma-heated groundwater produces the vapor that swells from the bluff's edge, framing spectacular views of the most active volcano on the Big Island, Kilauea Caldera.
