Channel Islands National Park and a neighboring national marine sanctuary encompass Pacific Ocean waters that extend seaward six miles from Santa Cruz and the other four park islands. A mixing of cold currents from the north and warmer southern currents creates a unique ocean environment that attracts an unusually rich and diverse variety of marine life.
