Its northern terminus is an 1834 fort built to protect Pensacola Bay. The southern trailhead is in the Big Cypress National Preserve. In between, the trail winds about 1,500 miles through pristine beaches, forests, prairies, ranch lands, swamplands and urban areas. The flora and fauna seen along the way showcase the state’s biodiversity. Thru-hikes usually take two to three months.
