The photographers that hike the quarter-mile paved trail to this overlook at sunrise and sunset immortalize Death Valley’s barren salt flats, badlands and distant mountains aglow in garish colors. One of the prominent geologic features seen from the viewpoint is Manly Beacon, an 823-foot desert spire named for a Gold Rush era pioneer.
