A Navy pilot during World War II, the older brother of President John F. Kennedy was killed during a 1944 mission over France. The destroyer bearing his name was commissioned in 1945 and served for 27 years, taking part in the Korean War and the space program. The ship also known as the “Joey P” is on display in Fall River.
