This town on the San Miguel River boomed after silver was discovered in 1875. Structures that housed miners and catered to their needs and vices went up quickly. 
A self-guided walking tour leads to many of the historic district’s hundreds of brick and Victorian-style buildings adorning downtown and adjacent neighborhoods.  Enhancing the tour is a dramatic mountain backdrop.
