Located at 282 feet below sea level and home to vast salt flats, North America’s lowest elevation is one of the hottest, driest places on Earth. A rare snail that adapted to its sizzling, salty environment resides in Badwater Pool, which is viewed from a boardwalk. Out on the flats, salt crystals rise to the surface in facinating geometric patterns.
