September 27, 1963, President Kennedy initiated the first power generation at this 502-foot-tall thin arch dam. Today it produces enough energy to serve 50,000 homes, regulates water flow to downstream states, and creates one of the West’s most beloved recreational playgrounds. The dam’s reservoir is a favorite for fishermen, with trophy lake trout caught regularly in the Green River’s cool, clear water.
