Despite living at the edge of the Painted Desert in a seemingly desolate location, the Ancestral Puebloan residents of this scenic area prospered as farmers and traders in the 1100s to the mid 1200s. They departed leaving behind footprints of a rich and thriving culture. Four hiking trails lead visitors to several well-preserved ancestral homes.
